Ready to homeschool Fifth Grade language arts? My goal is to guide you step-by-step through the process of learning to use the free, high-quality language arts curriculum from Core Knowledge to homeschool your student.
What is Language Arts? Language arts is a broad term referring to a variety of subjects including reading, spelling, composition, penmanship, grammar, language mechanics, punctuation, vocabulary, literature, and literary skills.
What Will Your Student Learn in Fifth Grade? Your student will continue to improve their research and composition skills through a number of writing assignments including reports, summaries, descriptions, research essays, explanations of processes, stories, and poems. They’ll also continue to improve their understanding of grammar and language usage including more advanced punctuation rules. Throughout the year they’ll be exposed to a variety of poetry including Longfellow, Dickinson, Whitman, Hughes, Carroll, Emerson, and more. They’ll also experience a range of literary works including Tom Sawyer, Don Quixote, Little Women, Sherlock Holmes, and Shakespeare as well as tales from Japan and the Native American Tradition.
