Welcome to Homeschooling Fifth Grade Social Studies! My goal is to guide you step-by-step through the process of learning to use the high-quality, free history and geography curriculum from Core Knowledge to homeschool your student.
What Will Your Student Learn in Fifth Grade? Your student will be continuing to work on their geography skills with a particular focus on the great lakes of the world as well as the geography of the United States. They’ll learn about early American civilizations including the Aztec, Maya, and Inca as well as the invasion by Spanish Conquistadors. European exploration and trade will be looked at in depth as well as a tour through the Renaissance, Reformation, and England’s Golden Age. Along the way, they’ll also dive into looking at the geography, history, and culture of Russia as well as feudal Japan. In U.S. history they’ll study the Civil War as well as the periods of western expansion both before and after the war. They’ll also learn about the cultures of Native Americans and the conflicts caused by western expansion.
